Advanced Stained Glass Course

Who is this course for?

Level 3 - This 3 session short course is for students who have completed an intermediate course with The GlassHouse or have previous experience with stained glass to an intermediate level or higher.  Please read the requirements carefully before booking.

Please note we recommend having completed an intermediate session within the last 8 months - unfortunately this course does not offer enough time to 'refresh skills' and students must be confident in their skills and require gudiance and advice only.

Intermediate short courses are available on our website.

We also recommend copperfoil classes to help with your cutting skills.

What does the course cover?

The aim of this course is to improve your ability and give you the skills to create your own designs independantly.

Course Schedule;

1. A guide on preparing your design will be sent to you by email so you can prepare for your course.  Submit your proposed design to the tutor by email a minimum of one week before session 1.

2.  Session One - 9.30am to 11.30am - Design session with your tutor at The GlassHouse.  During this two hour session your tutor will assess your design and drawing and help you prepare this as a template.

During this session you will also decide on your glass choice so that this can be ordered in time.

3.  Session Two - 9.30am to 5pm - Our tutors will supervise your glass cutting and leading.

4.  Session Three - 9.30am to 5pm - Continuing to create your panel, completing with the cementing and polishing ready to take home that day.  (You may collect your panel the following week if it is deemed it needs drying time).

What will I be able to make during this course?

Your design will need to be of a reasonable size - no larger than 350mmx500mm (or variables of this size). Panels larger than this are not possible during this course and will not be accepted by the tutor.  

Remember - the aim of this short course is to teach you how to create a panel independantly - we want you to be able to be creative and learn without pressure or running out of time to complete your panel.  This is not the time to be creating the masterpiece - it is the time to develop your skills so you can comfortably create the masterpiece next time.

What is included in the fee?

Material costs of glass and lead are NOT included in the course fee. Glass and lead can be purchased from the GlassHouse or sourced separately.  The use of tools and equipment, bench space, other materials and supervision are included.

Please note we do not offer extended time or additional sessions to complete your panel if it is not completed during the course.

There is a maximum of 5 students per class to ensure individual attention.

Please note, this course involves working with lead, we recommend that pregnant women do not attend.

What do I need to bring?

• Please wear sturdy and fully enclosed footwear (no open toes or gaping sides) and old clothes that you do not mind getting dirty or damaged.
• Please ensure long hair is tied back. 
• All drink containers/bottles must have lids.
• Food is not permitted to be consumed within the classroom or workshop.

Cancellation and Attendance Policy;

• In the event of a class being cancelled by the Host, the option of a full refund will be issued or the student may request a date transfer if available.
• Cancellations by the student over 28 days of the class date – we will offer a full refund or date transfer if available at the discretion of the student.
• Cancellations by the student within 28 days of the class date – we are unable to offer a refund or date change.  Please see following information:
• If we are able to re-sell your place a refund will be given at all times and every effort will be made to re-sell at all times.
• Non-attendance – if you do not attend on the day of your class you will not be eligible for a refund or class transfer.
• Payment of your class fee is deemed as acceptance of our terms and conditions.
