Who is this course for?
In this seaglass pendant workshop you will produce a unique seaglass and sterling
silver pendant. Under guidance of silversmith Kate Hunter-Parker, you will design your own pendant and pick from a selection of suitable seaglass. You will then use the traditional silversmithing techniques of cutting, annealing, and adding texture if you wish, and create a bezel setting to hold your glass and learn how to set it in place. You will form and solder a jumpring, then clean up and polish your piece.
This workshop is a great introduction to silversmithing and stone setting, you will learn lots of new skills and use a wide range of tools.
All the materials are included in the cost of the workshop. A sterling silver chain to finish your pendant is also included. If you wish to bring your own seaglass please bring a range of pieces and Kate will help you pick the most suitable.
This is a 3.5 hour course suitable for all learners but some dexterity would be a benefit.
What does the course cover?
This course will guide you through the steps of forming a seaglass pendant. You will
learn how to create a design, transfer this to metal. You will learn how to use a piercing saw, how to anneal your metal, to add a texture if you wish. You will create a bezel for your stone and solder this in place. You will learn how to set a stone. You will add a jump ring to your piece to turn it into a wearable pendant.
Please note : not all sea glass is suitable for this type of setting, so if you would like to bring your own glass, please bring a range of pieces so the tutor can help you pick the most suitable piece. In this class we will be forming a pendant with a back or part back as shown in the photos. The silver back plate is 2cm x 3cm if you require larger there will be a small additional charge.
What is included in the fee?
The fee includes tuition, the use of tools and equipment and all the materials to make a medium seaglass pendant and a 18 inch silver chain. The silver back plate is 2cm x 3cm if you require larger there will be a small additional charge.
There is a maximum of 4 students per class to ensure individual attention.
